How Teachers Can help The Brumback Library Help
Your Students
Before creating a major assignment call or e-mail us to make sure we have the
resources your students will need to complete that assignment. 238-2168 Voice,
238-3180 Fax, Web page www.brumbacklib.com
Please be aware that encyclopedias maybe the only resource we have on certain
topics, and even that may be very limited. Example: Chinese Deer, 2 paragraphs
in an animal encyclopedia.
We would encourage you to visit the Library to find assignment resources on
your own, and/or search our on-line catalog. If you can't find the required
information easily, your students won't be able either. This especially true
when it comes to extra credit and trivia assignments. Please let us know the
source of your answers!
Let us know the purpose of the assignment. Is it to teach research skills
with minimal librarian assistance or is it gathering information with as much
special attention as can be provided by the librarian?
Avoid mass assignments where all your students need the same books at the
same time. We know it is not always possible, but if your notify us in advance,
using the Assignment Alert we can pull material and put it on reserve for
in-house use only. Notify us at least 1 week in advance.
Plan assignments for off-times during the school year. In other words don't
assign Native American reports in November or President reports in February.
Give your students a written assignment sheets. What you require and what
they ask for may be two entirely different things. Encourage them to bring the
sheet with them when they come to the library.
Accept photocopies of articles and pictures rather than requiring an orginal.
Send the library a copy of your required reading list. If we know far enough in
advance we can order multiple copies.
